Our building
School space

Space that creates opportunities

Architecture should stimulate, inspire and give students the feeling of being in an important and unique place. We want our school to be a place where students don’t want to leave.

In September 2017 we moved to the new building. Together with the Medusa Group, an award-winning architectural office, we constructed the most modern school building in Poland.

To achieve our educational goals we have created:

Professional spaces for academic work

  • modern biology, chemistry and physics laboratories designed in collaboration with leading academic centres
  • spacious classrooms with oval (”Harkness”) tables

A unique space for artistic activities and creative work

  • a 100 square metre art studio adapted for classes in painting, printmaking and sculpture
  • a multimedia studio
  • a music room with a recording studio
  • an auditorium/theatre with seating for 300 people

A comfortable space for sport

  • gymnasium with courts and other extensive sport facilities

Inspiring spaces for individual work and relaxation

  • green roof (over 1000 m2 of vegetation)
  • green patio
  • cafeteria
  • study lounge

Akademeia High School in Miasteczko Wilanów

Our school promotes an eco-friendly, healthy lifestyle.

We aim to increase environmental awareness among our students. We are building an ecological garden on the roof of the school, complete with herbs, vegetables and fruits. The meals served in our cafeteria are specially designed by a dietician with nutrition in mind.

Part of the common space is a large lawn area, ensuring that students will be able to spend most of their time outdoors during the warmer months.

Prizes and awards

The new building will be eligible for the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum level.

The Architectural Prize of the Major of Warsaw “Best Public Service Building 2017”

The Jury’s justification:
The facility was nominated for its original and coherent architectural design, accompanied by modesty in the applied means of expression. The terrace stairs leading to the roof garden constitute an additional attraction. It is a unique building which is nothing like the standard solutions applied in most state-school designs.

We are one of the laureates of the 7th Architecture Competition organised by POLITYKA weekly.

The organisers said:

Awarding POLITYKA’s Architecture Prize, we want to showcase and promote buildings that symbolise good taste, are people-friendly and make their surroundings more aesthetic in an obvious way. Each year, we invite a select group of people who care about Poland’s urban and rural appearance to take part in our initiative: leading architects and urbanists, architecture critics, custodians of order in public spaces, and well-known artists.

Our school’s interior won the main prize in the Property Design 2018 competition in the Design – Interior category.

The organisers wrote:

Akademeia High School won the prize, as one of the most architecturally inspiring schools on the educational map of Poland. The private high school in Warsaw’s Wilanów neighbourhood was designed by Medusa Group, with additional interior work by Studio Rygalik. The school is original in many ways: it creates a new category in its class and constitutes an example of how environmental requirements, technical conditions, architecture and a special educational mission can be harmoniously combined. This is the latest investment in the premium category by Tacit Investment.”

We won the prize for the best green building without a certificate (or pre-certified), the PLGBC Green Building Award 2017, in a competition organised by the Polish Green Building Council. The competition and awards aim to promote modern solutions in green construction.

The Akademeia high school building stands out with its excellent global-standard architecture that fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility for the environment among young people.
