What have you been up to since you left Akademeia?

Apart from studying Human, Social and Political Sciences I have participated in a theatre project in Cambridge, a semi-staged reading of the classic Polish epic poem ‘Pan Tadeusz’. That and attending Cambridge Union debates and Trinity College Jazz nights.

How studying at Akademeia helped you prepare for university?

I often find myself going back to assignments and readings given to me by my teachers, often material from outside the curriculum, and using them in my University assignments. In AHS I learned how to write essays and organise my thoughts clearly. These two skills are fundamental in any discipline but especially in social sciences. The habit of sitting down and studying in a library or café after classes and lectures is something that I only began enjoying at AHS and it is a crucial part of University work. Furthermore, AHS taught me how to organise my work efficiently which proved extremely valuable in University, where work on your own, outside of lectures or supervisions, is a crucial part of the course.

What are your three favourite things about Akademeia?

Firstly, other students with whom I share many great memories from school and outside. I have learned a lot from others as they brought passion and ambition to the school. They created a great atmosphere.

Secondly, the amazing teaching staff. They often encouraged us to explore different topics. This has not only made University work easier but also resulted in me developing new interests. Their passion for teaching is something that continues to inspire me.

Thirdly, the ability to explore different topics while in school through electives and various events organised by the school.

Looking back at your own school time, what advice do you have for current Akademeia students?

Make time for things other than studying. Do not fixate on exams, deadlines and university applications. Try to enjoy as much time with friends and family as you can. Pursue hobbies. For me personally, sport and acting were pleasant distractions from studying and good ways to deal with stress. At the same time do not neglect your work completely. Focus in class and remember that work does not stop when classes end. It is instrumental that you find the right balance and understand what works best for you.

What are your projects for the future?

Once I graduate, I want to start travelling around the world. After that, I might consider applying for a master’s degree. I would also like to start teaching.
