Although we’re not able to go to the theatre during the pandemic, we still try to watch live performances online. On Friday 27th Nov, our Y12 and Y13 A-level Drama students watched together an online premiere of a new TR play called ‘2020: The Tempest’ (part of the 24th Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival).
It was an unusual production, which is based on Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’ and directed by a famous Polish theatre director, Grzegorz Jarzyna. It’s definitely full of surprises and inspirations for our drama department. The play poses some fundamental questions about humanity and the world that we’re part of. What’s more, ‘2020: The Tempest’ is a tale of numerous variants because it’s been developed with the help of the constantly learning artificial intelligence.
After the screening of the play, there was a Q & A session with the actors and all the people who created the production. Here not only did our students learn about the struggles that the actors had to deal with because of the pandemic, but we were also able to ask questions about the design of the play (inc. set, sound and light design).
If you would like you to find out more about the director of the play and the play itself, watch this interview with Grzegorz Jarzyna: https://thetheatretimes.com/grzegorz-jarzyna-on-the…/
Screen from Act 1 Scene 1.
