“The Neighbourhood” project is a personal and artistic research on how a specific, geographic area may serve as a starting point to develop a photographic project based in different locations, referring to memories and values, family archives, social interactions, nature and spacial units or architecture.

Each and every one of them has its own interpretation of The Neighbourhood, a different point of view, tools, practice and methods. Some projects relate to famous photography series and artworks, starting from XIX century paintings, through the German typology masters from the ’60s and the ’90s supermodel photo sessions.

I have a strong and confident understanding of my roots and what I consider my neighbourhood. I want this project to be a tribute to the place that raised me, watched over me and people who accompanied me in this journey” – says Karolina Kozielska.

If I was supposed to conclude this in 30 seconds, I would say that this project is almost auto-descriptive, however not in a sense that it creates a nostalgic story about the place that I used to spend time in my early days, but presenting my way of thinking, understanding and communicating” – describes Kostek Konopiński
