Colonial forms, decolonial transformations: schooling in contemporary urban Bolivia

In the second Akademeia Faculty Lecture, our Geography teacher Marcin Stanek took the participants to the fascinating journey to far-away Bolivia to show the complex and diverse educational, historical and national landscape of the country. The lecture sparked off a very interesting discussion afterwards

“This lecture was an intellectual journey to the heart of the Andean eduscape. Based on the author’s own ethnographic research, it explores everyday politics of decolonial schooling in urban Bolivia. Through an in-depth analysis of a variety of school-based approaches to ‘liberating and revolutionary’ education, the lecture shows how meanings of progressive education are contested and negotiated by a variety of actors within rigid structures of the country’s schooling system.”
