We hosted another exciting Science Talk last Wednesday. This time our faculty member Dr Jolanta Niedźwiecka spoke about biodegradation of explosives.
The webinar covered the use of microorganisms in bioremediation. The topics sound interesting, as they in fact are, especially learning that bacteria are capable of oxidizing molecules such as trinitrotoluene or hexogen, and thus safely removing them from the ecosystem! The electron tower diagram that was shown during the seminar will probably be useful in Year 13 when we learn redox reactions.
