Another great lecture from one of the Science Talks guests! This time in her talk “The Forgotten Stories of Radiation Protection” Dr Reszczyńska inspired our students to think in an interdisciplinary way and link the knowledge they gained in their Science classes with the most recent discoveries in the field of Physics.
Recently during physics classes in school, we discussed waves and touched upon radiation, this seminar allowed me to learn more about this topic and complemented the information I already knew. Learning about the uses of radiation in unexpected places such as toothpaste, butter, or water jars was shocking, it was interesting to explore the role of radiation in those areas. Furthermore, I enjoyed listening to the history of the brave scientist, Edmund Kells who dedicated his life to science through exposing himself to large doses of radiation that led to the invention of intra-oral radiography. Moreover, Dr Reszczynska debunked many myths and helped us understand that not all radiation is harmful!”
