The very first lecture in the Akademeia Faculty Lecture Series will be given by Mark Moore, Headmaster at Akademeia High School, a graduate of Cambridge University where he studied English Literature.
The lecture will take us on a journey through the aesthetic of the sonnet from its origins in English in the sixteenth century to the present day, looking at “the achieve of, the mastery of the thing”, through the art form of the perfectly created sonnet.
In “Windhover”, a sonnet by the Jesuit poet Gerald Manley Hopkins, the windhover (or kestrel) is revered both as a bird of prey and an emblem of the incarnate Holy Ghost, a perfectly created form, “the achieve of, the mastery of the thing”.
Thursday 27th September at 6:30 pm at Akademeia High School
The lecture is open for our students, their families and friends.
