Kacper Dworak
Design Academy Eindhoven
What does count as this year or biggest highlight?
My biggest highlight would be becoming a part of Design Academy Eindhoven community. It may seem a little broad for a highlight; however, getting to interact with the student body and the 1st year tutors here, is a unique experience to me. Our year group counts about 180 people from about 40 different countries. It’s really amazing to see how such a diverse group can form a very close community celebrating all the different cultures.
What are you doing now?
I am about to start the third trimester of my 1st year at Design Academy Eindhoven. In the upcoming part of the program, I’ll be focusing on my design viewpoint and how I relate to big questions within the field. During this period I’ll work with performance art, philosophy, creative writing, drawing and textile design. In my free time, I am working on a cookbook with my family.
What do you miss most from your times at school?
Above all, I miss the times I spent with my friends at Bruzdowa 109L, one of the former student accommodation buildings.I am thankful for always feeling supported and accepted in that environment, which allowed me to grow both as a person and as a student. I believe that when we were creating bonds between ourselves, we have definitely bonded with that place as well.
Choosing a degree and applying to university – if you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
I definitely could improve on time management, which was a big issue during my application process. However, in terms of my creative work and university choices, I wouldn’t really change anything. I am more than satisfied with my course at the DAE. If my past decisions led me to where I am now, they were good decisions.
Recommend one book, article, movie, you have read or seen lately?
During summer 2020 artists Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder and Kamasi Washington came together to form a very diverse group incorporating jazz, hip-hop and soul into their music. I’d like to recommend to you their debut album „Dinner Party” as well as its follow up „Dinner Party: Dessert” featuring stars of different genres and generations like Herbie Hancock, Cordae or Snoop Dogg. Beats are soothing with a fresh and playful feel to them. Enjoy
