Dr Mark William Kelly
Chemistry Teacher
After achieving his undergraduate degree Mark was offered a graduate job at Sasol Technologies Ltd where he was involved in the research of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. Mark left this position to complete a PhD in Bristol, where he specialised in gas phase plasma diagnostics and modelling for the chemical vapour deposition of diamond. During his PhD, Mark attended several conferences to present his work and is first author of two publications, as well as being second author of several others. Following a one-year post-doctoral research position in Bristol, Mark completed a PGCE to teach secondary science with a specialisation in Chemistry at the University of the West of England. Mark is moving to Warsaw having completed two years as Head of Chemistry at a British international school in Nairobi.
Dr Giovanni Peralta
Physics Teacher, Akademeia High School
Physicist, teacher of Physics and Mathematics. Born in Padria, north-west of Sardinia, Giovanni completed his studies at the University of Cagliari, graduating with a MSc in solid state physics with a thesis on “Jahn-Teller stabilisation of magnetic and orbital ordering in rocksalt CuO” under the supervision of Prof. Vincenzo Fiorentini and Dr Alessio Filippetti. In 2010, he moved to King’s College London, where he undertook and completed PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro De Vita and Dr James Kermode, investigating the mechanism of fracture in brittle materials by means of computer simulations using a hybrid quantum-mechanical and classical-mechanical model. As part of his PhD duties, he had the chance to supervise several undergraduate and master students in research projects on fracture modelling, attended conferences, and organised physics talks. From January 2013 to June 2015, he lectured Mathematics and Physics at Kaplan International College London to pre-undergraduate and pre-master students, coordinating all mathematics modules. In July 2015, he joined Akademeia in Warsaw, where to date he has been teaching Physics and Mathematics to both A Level and iGCSE students.
Dr Rafał Roszkowski
MD / Co-curricular Medicine Course Teacher, Akademeia High School
In 2014, he graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw. During his studies he was actively involved in students’ scientific associations at the Clinic of General, Transplantation and Liver Surgery and at the Clinic of General, Gastroenterological and Oncological Surgery. He assisted in liver transplant surgeries.
Currently, he works and specialises in general surgery at the Clinic of General, Oncological, Metabolic and Thoracic Surgery at the Military Institute of Medicine (Wojskowy Instytut Medyczny) in Warsaw, where, among others, laparoscopic resections of stomach and colon tumours are performed and obesity is treated with surgery. He is particularly interested in general and oncological surgery and emergency medicine.
Paweł completed ACLS course developed by the American Heart Association. He was involved with “Lubię Pomagam” Association, where he supported campaigns promoting volunteer blood donation. He has published medical articles and provided advice on healthy lifestyle.
