We are proud to share that Paulina G, our Y12 student, was announced the winner of the Minds Underground Essay Competition 2022!
The Minds Underground Essay Competition is an annual contest organised by a British educational platform Minds Underground open to 6th-Form-level students from all around the world. This year, the competition received over 1400 international submissions in 14 categories from Medicine and Engineering to Politics and STEM.
Paulina submitted an essay in the Art & Architecture category, in which she explored the issue of whether art has to elicit an emotional response.
Paulina commented on her work: ‘I chose this question as its openness immediately compelled me into hourlong reflections and also because of its emphasis on the viewer rather than the artist – an idea that I was very much interested in exploring further alongside my A-Level art historical journey. To present the issue from different perspectives, I considered artworks from a spectrum of media, philosophies, and time periods which allowed me to explore various art historical critical lenses, especially formalism and empathy theory.’
Congratulations, Paulina, on this fantastic achievement!
