About the job:
You will teach English Language and Literature and Drama in separate classes to students aged 14-18, across a range of English and Drama courses at IGCSE and A Level.
English Language and Literature:
Working collaboratively with other members of the English Department, you will be involved in the planning and delivery of a range of our curricula throughout a given academic session.
You will also support students in the planning and delivery of major pieces of work, such as external coursework, as well as developing their wider essay and transactional writing skills.
In tandem with the wider department, you will take an active role in promoting and encouraging the development of literacy throughout the school, both by personal example and through community-engagement projects conducted with students.
Drawing upon your work in the Drama Department, and seeking, wherever possible, collaboration with further related departments, you will aim to enrich students’ understanding and appreciation of a wide range of literary genres, including dramatic texts.
You will be involved in the promotion of literature-related activities to the wider school community, such as raising awareness of the school’s reading resources, both in our library and through our online journal access, as well as supervising students in their familiarization with and use of these and related resources.
Drama
Working closely with the Head of Department, you will deliver a combination of both theory and practice-based lessons using the department’s facilities: the auditorium, backstage area, props/costumes, lighting and sound, and utilizing our online resources such as the Digital Theatre Plus platform to support students’ learning of and appreciation for this vital artform.
You will work directly with students on both the devising and direction of the practical components of their GCSE and A Level qualifications, reviewing the work of external production companies covered within the specifications and supporting the students in the incorporation of new techniques into their own work. Your support of the students’ devised pieces will include oversight of both the writing and the physical organisation of their pieces.
At intermittent stages throughout the school year you will oversee the running of rehearsals to ensure that students have had appropriate practice opportunities for their work before their final performances. Encouraging as much independence in your students as possible, you will also support them in the promotion and advertising of their work to the school community.
In terms of outreach, to promote the work and activities of the Drama Department within the wider school community, you will assist in the planning and promotion of dramatic works through major events such as the annual Drama Week (held in the spring term) and the school’s Arts Week (held in the summer term). Throughout the school year, you will also work will colleagues from both the English and Drama Departments in the organization of monthly school trips to the theatre, as well as the screenings of transmitted productions, e.g. National Theatre Live productions, in our auditorium.
The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. The maximum class size is 12, which allows our students to benefit from more focused and personalized teaching. Teachers are expected to either be involved in pastoral care (tutoring of a small group) or supporting student clubs and co-curricular activities; with reference to the teaching of Drama, this may include supporting students from outside of the department with school-wide productions, such as the annual musical or our external drama program. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend. Within the usual course of dramatic productions, drama teachers will also be expected to oversee and attend rehearsals that may be run in the evenings or at weekends, if not during regular working hours.

You will be an experienced school-based mental health provider (school counsellor, psychologist, etc.), working alongside our pastoral team in further promoting wellbeing and resilience, and supporting diverse students with mental health needs at an individual, group, and school level. - Conduct individual school-based counseling sessions with teens focused on a wide range of mental health problems and using evidence-based mental health interventions.

- Up-to-date professional licensure granted by an accredited institution or association.

Required Skills:
- At least two years of independent work experience as a mental health provider in educational settings or integrated behavioral/healthcare settings (supervised practice can be considered).
- Experience in conducting individual counseling sessions with teens from culturally diverse backgrounds using evidence-based tools.
- Working knowledge of and experience in utilizing short-term mental health interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, third-wave therapies, or Motivational Interviewing.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong knowledge of ethical and professional standards (specified by a relevant accreditation/licensure institution) and ability to apply them to school settings.
- Experience in mental health record keeping and documentation.
- Strong teamworking, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
