This role is an excellent opportunity for a teacher looking to take the next step in their career or for an experienced Head of Department capable of leading a team of dedicated teachers. While leadership experience is not essential, applicants must demonstrate the skills and qualities necessary to effectively lead a department.
The role focuses on four main areas of management and leadership.
- Quality of teaching
The Head of Department is responsible for the quality of teaching and learning across the subjects they oversee. They lead a team of teachers in their professional growth in line with the broader school ethos of a learning community to ensure the quality of the students learning.
- Exam results
In liaison with the Data Coordinator, the Head of Department is responsible for the department's exam results, including the tracking and analysis of results data to improve student outcomes.
- Department development
The Head of Department plays a crucial role in setting the vision and strategic direction for the department’s growth.
- School Development
The Head of Department contributes to the overall development and success of the school collaborating with senior leadership and other departments.
As the Head of our Human and Social Sciences Department, you will collaborate with experienced professionals who value teamwork and the interdisciplinary nature of social sciences. Our commitment to student-cantered approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which prepares students for academic success and lifelong learning. The department consistently achieves outstanding results in external exams at both IGCSE and A Level. In recent years, our students have been awarded Pearson Learner Awards in categories such as the Highest Mark in the world in the International A Level in Economics and the highest mark in Poland in the International GCSE in History and Geography. Many of our students go on to study at prestigious universities, such as LSE, University of Cambridge MIT, Yale University. The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with 4 hours release for administrative responsibilities with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.
