Many people already have heard about so-called ‘zombie ants’, but not everyone knows that what causes this “zombiness” is actually a parasitic fungus living inside the ant’s body.
On 15th February we had a chance to listen about this phenomenon during Mr Igor Siedlecki’ lecture. Our guest, a PhD student at the Botanical Garden, Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, introduced us to a fascinating world of ant-fungal interactions. We have learned how such relations look like not only in the tropics, but in temperate climates.
That was another meeteing from the Akademeia Science Talk serie, designed to broaden our students scientific perspective.
